Traditional Silver Braces
Traditional Silver braces are the most common type of brace used in Orthodontics. These braces are easy to work with, but are very noticeable. Many patients will not have a problem with this; however, some patients will prefer to use less noticeable braces. Along with being the most commonly used type of braces; traditional silver braces are also the most predictable, most reliable and most efficient braces. Coloured Braces
Coloured braces are the same as traditional silver, but have optional, changeable coloured ties. These ties come in 30 different colours that can be mixed and matched by the patient. Typically, children and teenagers tend to prefer coloured braces. If you want to pick out your colours prior to your appointment, take a look at the “brace painter.” Clear Braces
These braces are not invisible, but are far less noticeable that coloured or traditional braces. Clear braces are not as easy to work with, not as durable or efficient as metal braces. For those who choose Clear braces over Traditional braces, you will be required to put more effort into maintaining and cleaning your braces. Clear braces are slightly more expensive than traditional metal braces. Combination Braces
Sometimes, patients will opt to use the stronger traditional braces on the bottom teeth, while using the clear braces for the upper teeth. This is considered the best of both worlds, with less noticeable braces on the top where people want them and strong braces on the bottom where people need them. By using combination braces, there is less worry about breakage and staining over full Clear braces, while also being slightly less expensive. Invisalign Braces
Invisalign braces are virtually invisible, removable braces. This system of removable braces uses a series of high-tech, clear acrylic shells that work to move your teeth incrementally, without having to fix them to your teeth. Invisalign braces are not suitable for all orthodontic treatments, but can be quite effective for minor or moderate treatments. If you are interested in Invisalign, come in for an preliminary appointment to find out if you are a good candidate for Invisalign appliances. Typically, these treatments will last anywhere from 6-18 months. Invisalign is more expensive than Coloured, Clear and Traditional braces. iBraces (Lingual Braces)
Lingual braces are invisible braces that are placed on the backside of your teeth. They are more difficult to work with, more difficult to clean and less comfortable to wear than any other type of brace treatment. Lingual braces can be used to treat any type of orthodontic problems; however, treatments can take longer and are significantly more expensive than Clear, Traditional, Coloured, or Invisalign braces.
